Thankfully, Bluetooth speakers are now readily available in the market at affordable prices and good volume output. A good Bluetooth speaker today must have a loud volume output, decent battery life, crisp bass and clear sound. You can check out the list of best Bluetooth speakers under 2000 to choose the right Bluetooth speaker in this range. We have written this review after hours of testing and after reading this, you’ll have a clear view of what boAt Stone 650 has to offer and should you buy it or not.
boAt Stone 650 Bluetooth Speaker Review
We got a black coloured review unit of boAt Stone 650 and the first impression was that it was big and heavy. The speakers came in a big cardboard box with a display image, specifications, features and details about the company printed on all sides. While unboxing boAt Stone 650, we found the following items in the box:
- boAt Stone 650 speaker
- Warranty card
- Instructions manual
- Auxiliary cable
- Micro-USB cable
The boxing looks premium and the speakers come with all the necessary accessories required to use the Bluetooth speakers. The instructions manual makes it clear as to how to use the speakers. The aux and USB cables are fairly thick and look durable on the first impression. The one thing you would definitely notice here is that speakers are large in size and feels heavy in weight.
Design and Build Quality
boAt Stone 650 has a cuboid shape with diamond-shaped protrusions on the speaker grill and rubber coverings on both ends. The diamond-studded mesh design is not out of the box but looks subtly attractive and minimal giving a premium feel to the product. The ends of the speaker have detachable silicone covering which makes it resistant to damage in case of accidental drops. This is a good feature since Bluetooth speakers are usually handled roughly and are prone to drops during parties and outings. boAt Stone 650 weighs at a fairly heavy 655g measuring at 191x70x70mm. The heavy size can be attributed mainly to the dual drivers and a large battery.
There’s boAt logo in the centre of one side of the speaker while the other side has a port to screw in a tripod or any kind of mount for those who want to keep their speakers on an elevated plain. This feature comes in very handy during recording purposes for which boAt Stone 650 also comes with an in-built mic. So, you can also use this speaker for receiving calls directly from the speakers. There’s a remote control panel over the silicone covering on one side of the speakers. You get the all the power on/off, play/pause, forward/rewind and volume control buttons on this side of the speakers. All the utility physical buttons are available separately so you can control your music through the speakers itself.
On the side edge of that end of the speakers, you will find the micro-USB and the aux connectivity ports under the silicone covering. Along with the USB and aux ports, there’s also a MicroSD slot given here which is a great option for people who like to listen to downloaded songs offline. There’s a small notification LED and a mic on the opposite side edge of that end. The LED turns on as soon as we turned the speakers on and it blinks indicating low power.
The overall build quality of boAt Stone 650 looks great with a tough mesh grill on the front complemented by silicone covering on either side. The speakers can easily be cleaned with a damp cloth and come with IPX5 water and dust resistance rating which prevents it from sudden rain and makes it a durable product. Although some brands may offer IPX7 rating at this range, IPX5 is also a good enough protection to have. The only disadvantage we noticed was there’s no place to hook a strap or band on the speakers.
boAt Stone 650 comes with a dual-driver stereo setup with 2 drivers of 5W power on either side of the speakers. There’s an additional passive bass radiator on the backside of the speakers which acts as a subwoofer and amplifies the bass for a thumping and immersive experience. People looking for a good Bluetooth speaker in this range usually get disappointed by the lack of powerful bass but boAt Stone 650 definitely performs admirably in this respect.
The passive bass radiators work like a charm and increase the thump and bass-heavy songs sound more intense on this speaker. This speaker is hugely recommended for EDM and punchy bass song lovers. Although the bass is dominant on boAt Stone 650, it manages to deliver decent and clear vocals.
You can feel the bass overpowering vocals at times but that’s the case only in bass-heavy songs. The volume output is quite loud due to 10W speaker output and these speakers would be great for a house party in a medium-sized room. The only flaw in audio quality is that we could feel the disturbance and muddle at full volume. The speakers sound crisp and clear at 80% volume and the output is louder as compared to other speakers of the same power output.
Bluetooth and Connectivity
boAt Stone 650 comes packed with Bluetooth v4.2 for quick connectivity. It got connected to our smartphone in 5 seconds from when we turned the speaker. The Bluetooth range offered by boAt Stone 650 is 10m but we found that the Bluetooth stops working after around 12m which is still pretty average. We could have liked if it came with Bluetooth 5.0 for faster connectivity and longer-range but it’s the best we have at this price point.
The aux port worked fine although there is a slight disturbance whenever the cable is connected. The Bluetooth automatically turns on when the device is on and is indicated by a white light in the notification LED. You can accept/reject calls directly from the speaker by clicking on the play/pause button. Other buttons including power on, forward, rewind and volume rockers also worked fine.
boAt Stone 650 packs a huge 1800mAh battery and we were slightly surprised by the relatively low battery backup of 7 hours when playing songs at 70% volume. This can be attributed to the fact that boAt Stone 650 has powerful 10W drivers that use a lot of battery. It lasts around 5 hours when continuously playing songs at full volume.
It takes around 3 hours to completely charge boAt Stone 650 using a 5W charger. Overall, the battery backup and charging time are decent at the price point.
boAt Stone 650 is a stylish yet tough Bluetooth speaker under the range of Rs.2000. Packed with 10W dual drivers, it has one of the loudest volume output in this range. The bass is also crisp and punchy while the voice starts getting muddled at full volume. Overall, it’s the right choice for people looking for a speaker for small house parties or casual bedtime listening. EDM lovers would also be delighted with the powerful bass it comes with. boAt Stone 650 is durable with IPX5 water-resistant rating and silicone cover protection on both ends.
Packed with a heavy battery, boAt Stone 650 weighs at 655g and you would want to keep it as a stable home speaker than a portable pocket speaker. The battery backup is average while it takes a long time to charge completely. Finally, boAt Stone 650 comes with a 1-year warranty for manufacturing defects. Looking at the commendable audio quality and tough build of boAt Stone 650, it is a good option for people looking to buy a Bluetooth speaker for their homes.
