Positives
  • Front Camera: The Redmi Note 5 Pro’s 20 MP camera with the Sony sensor delivered sharp and clear selfies; the bokeh mode which is rendered using Beauty 4.0 was pretty impressive as well; the edge detection blurred out image which is not in focus. The LED flash in the front was useful in low lighting conditions.
  • Rear Camera: The Dual Rear Camera setup with the 12 MP and secondary 5 MP which is used for depth sensing delivered very sharp and detailed images, the edge detection on the rear also did a good job, the portrait mode/bokeh mode was impressive. The color reproduction was quite well and the images captured outdoor were highly detailed as well as in low light condition were surprisingly decent in capturing darker areas with a good amount of details.
  • The HDR mode in the Redmi Note 5 Pro did a good job in capturing a high amount of details in images, the color grading was accurate and high amount of details could be seen even in artificial and low lighting conditions.
  • Xiaomi implemented EIS (electronic image stabilization) resulting shooting Videos with fewer Jitters and less shaky effects, the videos captured using the front and the rear camera was of 1080p at 30 FPS out of the box. Here is the video recording sample of Redmi Note 5 Pro-

Redmi Note 5 Pro: Cons or Reason to not Buy

Negatives
  • Living in 2018 still, Redmi Note 5 Pro uses micro-USB Type B whereas brands like Moto have started to use USB-C on their devices since while ago.
  • Xiaomi did not mention what kind of Screen Protection is being used on the Redmi Note 5 Pro but it does use the same kind of protection similar to the other Note series devices. However, we would suggest you to use tempered glass protection for extra safety.
  • The video recording did take a while to autofocus; although the Snapdragon 636 is capable of 4K recording but Xiaomi didn’t implement 4K recording in note 5 pro. Hopefully, Xiaomi adds 4K recording via the next update.
  • Although Android Oreo was released while ago the Redmi Note 5 Pro still runs on the outdated Android Nougat; we hope Xiaomi rolls out an update for Android Oreo soon.
  • The Redmi Note 5 Pro has only white LED notification light which cause a problem of visibility on the white color variant of the phone.
  • The Redmi Note 5 Pro has gone with Hybrid SIM slot which let us use either two Nano sim or a Nano sim and an SD card which means you will have to sacrifice either a sim slot for extra storage or extra storage for Dual Sim. But wait we have a solution for Hybrid sim slot and suggest you go through this – Solution of Hybrid Sim slot and use Dual Sim + microSD together.
  • Xiaomi still does not provide a dedicated Quick charger inside the box like it did with the Redmi Note 5.
  • The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes without any earphones in the box. So better you Check it out- Top 5 Best Earphones under 500 Rs in India and Top 10 Best Earphones under 1000 Rs in India.

Final Conclusion on Redmi Note 5 Pro

Redmi Note 5 Pro is unbeatable for the price Rs 15000

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro is one of the promising Camera Smartphone, in our opinion we consider it as an all-rounder smartphone. It’s Camera Performance, day to day multitasking, longer battery backup and display quality not only impressed us but beats its competitor like Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1Honor 7x, Samsung Galaxy On Max, Oppo A83, and Moto G5S Plus. Like every Smartphone, this phone also has some cons. If those cons are not an issue for you then right now, it is the best smartphone under 15k.
