Moto G6 Plus Pros and Cons: Solid Reasons to Change your Mind

Moto launched the G6 lineup way back in June 2018, the G6 series consisted of the G6 Play, G6, and G6 Plus. The G6 series did acceptably good, even though it had competition from its own lineup. The G6 Plus launched with 4GB of RAM at first but now it has been revamped and now retails with a beefier RAM capacity of 6GB and a faster processor. G6 series has been taking a beating due to its price points as it places itself very illogically in the spectrum. We will have to see if Moto is able to regain its place with this new launch or not.

The Moto G6 Plus is the best one in the G6 series with better specs than all the other variants like G6 Play and G6. But it carries forward the same issue as its brothers- inaccurate pricing. The G6 Plus racks up evenly in terms of specs but the price point it has chosen brings it competition from some very strong players like Poco F1, Honor Play, Redmi Note 5 Pro etc. It is still to be seen what premium features it offers to defend its pricing.

So, We have discussed Moto G6 Plus pros and cons in detail to help you build a decision about this phone.

Moto G6 Plus: Pros

Here are the pros or reasons to buy Moto G6 Plus-

  • The Moto G6 Plus sports a 5.9″ FullView Display or Bezel Less Display. The IPS Panel is not bad at all and will perform brilliantly even under direct sunlight. The Colors and Contrasts are fairly balanced and by default, Neutral Viewing Mode is great for most users. The Display Panel is great and will not disappoint.
  • The Display comes with Gorilla Glass 3 protection while it is worth mentioning that newer iterations are out and available but still Gorilla Glass 3 is better than no on-screen protection.Moto G6 Plus Pros and Cons image3
  • The Dual Camera setup consists of a dual sensor where only one is visibly operable. The 12 MP main sensor is a very capable shooter but we will not compare performance based on prices. The G6 Plus manages to capture fairly balanced images even though the dynamic range isn’t the best it still manages to capture decent shots.
  • The Video Recording front is pretty strong on the G6 Plus. The camera is capable of up to 4K resolution recordings and 1080p at 30 and 60 FPS. The 1080p recordings are more stable than the 4K ones but the 4K videos are still pretty impressive. Here is the Video sample of Moto G6 Plus from Recombu-
  • The front camera takes great pictures in both day and night conditions thanks to the Front LED Flash. The sensor hunts for details under low lighting but the flash helps out a lot. The auto softening feature helps in evening out the images. Overall the camera is not the best and era-defining like the G5 Plus but still is a sizeable improvement.
  • The Snapdragon SD630 is an overall good processor but there are newer generations on the market that cost less than this one. The SD630 even though dated, is still a solid performer and you won’t feel the heft of lags and delays.
  • The 6GB RAM is well managed and spans through multi-tasking and browsing and still leaves out enough RAM for background computing or background tasks.
  • The Moto G6 Plus sports a dedicated SD card slot which is a very popular consumer-friendly addition allowing for storage expansion up to 256GB. This is a very important factor to consider in such times where the bulk of your data is stored on your phones.
  • The 3200 mAh battery lasts for over a day on a single charge which is a decent duration. Although some cheaper models sport a larger battery the G6 Plus but still it pumps out respectable numbers to be considered as a viable option.
  • The G6 Plus retails with a fast 15 W Turbo Charger and Qualcomm Fast Charge 4 support. This means that you can pack on power faster than normal. It can charge from 0-38% in about 30 mins.
  • The G6 Plus sports the usual array of sensors Accelerometer, Gyro, and Proximity. It also sports a waterproof coating that helps the phone through wet conditions like a small splash.
  • The G6 Plus is very user-friendly on the OS and Optimisation front. The Stock Android UI and Moto Gestures sweeten the deal a lot. The Moto Gestures utilize the Fingerprint Sensor in very useful ways like locking the phone etc. It can also be used as the navigation button for more screen real scenario.

Moto G6 Plus: Cons

Here are the cons or reasons not to buy Moto G6 Plus-

  • The Moto G6 Plus’ biggest flaw is its pricing, it has been priced at 22,000 Rs in India and that is the main reason it is going to fail. The price to performance ratio is not up to the mark. The processor is not right according to the price, the camera isn’t comparable to most devices in that price range. Moto should rethink their pricing front or it will lose popularity.
  • The phone even though boasts FullView Display, still has a lot of bezel on the top and bottom. This takes away from the whole “Bezel Less Experience” but that doesn’t compromise display quality overall.
  • The camera does not sport OIS even though it supports 4K Resolution Recording. We feel like Moto G6 Plus should have sported OIS to make it a better contender.
  • The build quality is not on par with the price. The plastic body does feel premium, but it does not feel as sturdy as some other devices in this range.

So this was our take on the advantages and disadvantages of the latest Moto G6 Plus, read further for our final words on whether or not you should buy this smartphone.

Final Thoughts on Moto G6 Plus

Moto G6 Plus Pros and Cons image4

We found the G6 Plus a great device and it has a lot of features we hope other smartphones to have, the display is bright and balanced, the battery is great and charges up fast, the cameras are decent. But this whole package comes at a price that already has too many great competitors with much better specs, sure they do lack the Moto touch but they do offer better performance in one or more fronts. We would suggest only Fanboys and a long line of Moto users to go for this device as there are certainly more options to consider.
