Moto E5 Plus Pros and Cons- Solid Reasons to Change your Mind

Moto has been delivering some great devices in the budget and mid-range department and even some great flagship killers. But something just does not hit the mark like the users want. The Moto lineup is getting very saturated and there are not many options left for Moto. If it does not follow suit and take the Xiaomi way then this could mean trouble as the competition in this price range is nail-biting. The newest entry in the E-series of the Moto brand, the E5 Plus is a mixed bag according to us, read further for our full thoughts on its strengths and weakness in detail.

The Moto E5 Plus is being launched at a price of 11,999 Rs which puts it in direct competition with the Redmi Y2Max Pro M1, Redmi Note 5, Oppo Realme 1 etc. These devices have far better specs than the E5 Plus but still, the E5 Plus does manage to have a little edge in the battery department and other software additions. Read till the end for our final verdict on this budget battery powerhouse.

Moto E5 Plus- Pros or Reasons to buy

Here are the pros or advantages of the Moto E5 Plus-

  • The rear 12 MP is decent given the price range, although there are better options. The quality is not mindblowing but the resulting shots are usable and capture a fair amount of detail. The camera can capture videos at 1080p at 30 fps, you can check the quality here in this video from PhoneArena Samples-
  • The larger pixel size helps in better dim-light performance which is good considering that it is a budget phone. The photos are captured in an auto-HDR mode and this helps in further adding clarity.
  • There is a selfie flash that does brighten up the selfie shots and helps in low light situations and will help in capturing better-detailed shots.
  • The Laser autofocus isn’t comparable to the flagships but is still faster than most budget phones. You can expect quick focus shots but don’t expect too much as this is a budget phone.
  • The processor on the E5 Plus is decent for day to day tasks and can handle pretty much anything due to the lower resolution screen. The Snapdragon 430 is not the best choice but it will not hinder your app loading times and other things in any way.
  • The Adreno 505 GPU is decent and can handle all games like PUBG but they will run at an auto low setting preset. So if you want games that are eye candy you should opt for a more powerful phone.
  • The 5000 mAh battery is absolutely massive and it performs too. The HD+ screen and low power drawing 430 SoC processor reduce battery drain and you can expect to go for over 2 days on medium to heavy usage. Light users will be able to squeeze out another day on a single charge.
  • The Moto E5 Plus retails with a 10W power charger and the phone supports charging through a higher wattage charger too for a quicker charging time.
  • The dedicated SD card slot allows for memory expansion options up to 256 GB. This is a great user-friendly addition that will be appreciated by the masses.
  • The Stock Android UI is also a great software choice by Moto and further helps in creating a smooth experience for the users. There is little to no bloatware and thus the menus load faster and the phone runs smooth.
  • The Moto Actions and Moto Display and Gestures are a bunch of software enhancements that help in quicker access to apps and notifications and they work well and will considerably help in day-to-day productivity.
  • The splashproof coating is also very helpful as it will easily save your phone from light showers and accidental drops in water. Though it is not an IP rating it still offers some level of protection. If you want to know more about IP Ratings read this- IP Ratings Explained.

Moto E5 Plus- Cons or Reasons to not buy

Here are the cons or disadvantages of the Moto E5 Plus-

  • The screen is not very bright and viewing angles are sacrificed during landscape orientation. The brightness is not what you would expect and sunlight readability does tend to become a problem. The display is a bit Blueish tinged.
  • The front camera has been dialled down in India and the E5 Plus launched with just 5 MP. This was not a welcomed move as Indians are selfie lovers and a lower MP camera sensor will not make users happy. To capture wider shots you will need a selfie stick, here are our recommendations- Best Selfie Sticks in India.
  • The pricing and placement of the E5 Plus are totally illogical, first off it cannot compete with the competition in the same price range secondly, it will find itself in competition with its own brother devices like the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play. This will surely hinder sales.
  • The processor might be apt for day-to-day tasks but it lags out during camera startup making the capture time longer than that on most budget phones with faster processors.

So this was our take on the advantages and disadvantages of the latest Moto E5 Plus, read further for our final words on whether or not you should buy this smartphone.

Final Thoughts on the Moto E5 Plus

Moto E5 Plus

The Moto E5 Plus has very less to offer in times where budget smartphones are retailing with blazing fast processors. Only a large battery and Stock Android UI won’t cut it, Moto needs to innovate as its lineup is becoming very saturated at this point. There are tons of other devices that can outperform the E5 Plus and even its own brother devices are priced similar to it hindering sales for either of them. If you are coming from an older E-series variant then this might be an upgrade otherwise it is just another phone which will get lost in the spectrum.
