Honor 7S Pros and Cons: Solid Reasons to Change your Mind

Honor has been battling it out with the longstanding champions in the budget segment for quite some time now. It has delivered a few great entries with its Kirin series processors, but things started to become a bit repetitive of late. The lineup of the 7 series became redundant and Honor needed to refresh the cycle. That being said the swift release of devices in nearly every price range did make a stable place for Honor in the budget segment, let’s see what the newest entry in these budget devices has to offer.

The Honor 7S will face stiff competition from a lot of budget focussed devices like the Redmi 6A, Redmi 6, Nokia 2.1 etc. There are some key points that the Honor 7S lacks and that’s what gives the competitors an edge over it. The device does have some benefits of its own.

So, We have discussed Honor 7S pros and cons in detail so that you have a clear idea about the strengths and weaknesses of this phone.Honor 7S Pros and Cons image1

Honor 7S: Pros

Here are the pros or reasons to buy Honor 7S-

PROS
  • The Honor 7S sports a very vibrant display. For the price of 7000 Rs Honor 7S boasts a very clear and balanced display, not too good but not bad either. It is just balanced, bright and enjoyable. The screen will satisfy all the day-to-day needs of a smartphone user, it is sharp, it is visible and its pocket-friendly.
  • The 13 MP rear camera is a bit slow to focus and load scenes but it can take decent photos that suit its price tag. The camera performs better than what we expected under direct sunlight or a sufficient amount of light. The details are good and the images are pretty usable for the most part.
  • The 720p video capture turns out quite impressive but only if you have a steady hand and ample of sunlight. The 1080p videos are also good but only when you see them through the capture screen.
  • The front camera sports an LED Light that tries to brighten up the scene whenever there is a deficiency of light. The auto beautify feature is also half decent and will be just about enough. For a budget device, the results are just satisfactory.Honor 7S Pros and Cons image3
  • The Honor 7S is solidly built and the body is very tightly packed. The low cost of the phone does not mean that the phone gives up on build quality. The 142gm device is easy to hold and does not slip so overall the build and feel are quite nice.
  • The addition of an external SD-Card Slot helps a lot especially with this device as there isn’t much room by itself. The 16GB storage is not enough by today’s standards and the 256 GB expansion capability is much welcomed.
  • You also get the usual budget sensors like the accelerometer and proximity sensor. But that’s about it, although considering its price this is about enough.
  • The battery is also good considering the price and will suit most of the budget users. The phone will last over a day with moderate usage and as it is the processor is a low-end one so the phone does not use much battery resources.

Honor 7S: Cons

Here are the cons or reasons not to buy Honor 7S-

CONS
  • The MediaTek MT6739 processor is very underwhelming and even in day to day usage the phone feels sluggish. The processor is a 2017 launch and not meant to handle HD+ loads that too in 2018. On top of that, the 2 GB of RAM further extends the agony of laggy performance and slow browsing.
  • The cameras perform poorly in any condition that has less than sufficient light. You will need a lot of natural light and a mix of the right conditions to get usable shots.
  • The EMUI 8.0 is not necessarily bad but it makes this already slow device even more unbearable to use. The EMUI has a lot of bloatware and an iPhone-like theme. This takes away from the Android experience.
  • The Fingerprint sensor has been omitted and there is no Face Recognition either unlike the previous models like 7C etc. This means that the only way to secure the phone is through on-screen patterns and PINs.

So this was our take on the advantages and disadvantages of the latest Honor 7S, read further for our final words on whether or not you should buy this smartphone.

Final Thoughts on Honor 7S

Honor 7S Pros and Cons image4

The Honor 7S gets away with quite a few cons that we did not mention just because of its price. It does not have Dual SIM VoLTE and the 1080p videos aren’t saved in native resolution. These are a few things that you can look past, but what you can’t get past is the low-level performance and bloated UI. The disadvantages are far more prominent than the few advantages but still, it is not a total waste of money. The Honor 7S has a better screen than most competitors and a decent battery life too. The cameras are decent under daylight and the Dedicated SD-Card Slot is a boon. This device is recommended for those who are coming from an already ancient device, in that case, this will truly feel like an upgrade.
